The CPE Transformations app is designed for those people who are studying for the Cambridge University English CPE exam.

It has been specifically designed to help improve effectiveness in the Use of English task known as ‘Keyword Transformations’.

The app has five booklets with 20 exercises per booklet. The most common problem that students have with this exercise is that they simply do not practice it enough. The aim of this app is to enable students to practice the exercises that they have the most difficulty with over and over again until they have them memorised. Having the app on the phone enables the user to practice on the go and not be limited to when they can find time to study at a desk.

The same kinds of exercises repeat over and over again, so it is very useful for the user to be able to remember and to recognise the patterns.

The app keeps a score of how many exercises the user gets right. If the user gets the answer wrong, they have the option to try again or to see the correct answer. Then they have the option to continue or to bookmark the exercise in order to practice it again and again until memorised. The user also has the option to do the exercises in order from 1-20 (per booklet) or to randomise them.

An e-book version is available at www.keywordtransformations.com and via Amazon which includes a tip sheet. Training videos will shortly also available at the keyword transformations channel on youtube.com. Exercises are also posted daily on the http:// keywordtransformations.wordpress.com blog
The FCE Transformations app and the CAE Transformations app are also available.

Instructions for the exercise:

The exercise consists of two sentences and a word. The second sentence has a gap. The user must complete the second sentence so that it is as close as possible in meaning to the first sentence. They must use between three and eight words including the given word. They must not change the given word in any way.

NOTE: In the actual exercise on the exam it is often possible to have more than one correct answer. It is also acceptable to use contractions (dont, hasnt etc.) or full forms (do not, has not etc.). However, the app only offers ONE correct solution because the user only needs to learn one to get the points.
